Big news!

The time has finally come that I'm able to share my exciting news.  My quilt is in the upcoming April 2014 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting magazine.  Here's a picture of the cover (not my quilt), but the little "gorgeous applique" square in the upper right hand corner refers to my project.

Yes, obviously I'm excited, this is my first time being published.

This project was such a labor of love.  From the first design work, finding just the right fabric, and then working up the first block.  Joyous colors, my favorite actually.  Who can't love purple and orange?

The diagonal set of the repeated block is what creates all the movement and I can't wait to try this idea again, I've got a dozen ideas floating around in my head.  I hesitate to make a new time commitment and then realized I can make just one block and multiply it on the computer before I continue on.  Hmmm...I may be getting started sooner than I thought.

A big thank you to American Patchwork & Quilting for including me in your magazine, you were all so wonderful to work with, it was a real pleasure.

  1. Hurray!!! You can finally share your new found fame!!!! I love the little picture of your appliqued flower on the front cover of the magazine and they did a nice job of placing it in a purple room with a green bed. I can see the paint stores now with women lined up to get the right color of green for their beds. Look what you've started!!! Ohhhh HAPPY DAYS!!! Congratulations YOU DEFINITELY DESERVE it!!!

  3. I found your blog from the reference in the magazine. Your quilt is fabulous! I love the colors and the fact that the appliqué looks chic and modern and fun. I would like to make this, and get it finished in my lifetime, so I will probably have to do it with fusible machine appliqué techniques.
I rarely get inspired from patterns in the magazines, but this quilt is a Winner with a capital W!

  4. Thanks so much for your kind comments. I say get your applique done however suits you so you can enjoy the quilt. I love to do needle turn but certainly understand how time consuming it can be.

  5. Laurel, I love your quilt so much. I have to make it. Every single fabric is perfect. Was this a fabric line or did you just go shopping and start picking out fabrics? Congratulations for getting into the magazine. You deserve all the compliments.

    1. Thank you, Cass. I've had this question more than a couple of times lately so I'll do a post here showing what I used and how I chose it. Stay tuned! Laurel
